economic, and social barriers; I’m particularly inspired by their Eureka program, which supports STEM-based learning, and CommuniCARE, which engages young girls about philanthropy. Learn more about the many volunteer opportunities abou the many support their work by making a donation. And, save the date for their biggest event of the year,
Power of the Purse  on March 17, 2017.  I plan to be there, for sure!

BEYOND DIFFERENCES

I recently discovered Beyond Differences, a social justice movement dedicated to ending social isolation for middle school children who suffer from feeling left out and like they don’t belong at school.  They have  worked in over 1,500 schools to prevent bullying before bd_logoit starts by teaching students to become activists and change the culture of middle school through programs such as Know Your Classmates and No One Eats Alone. You can help inspire students to end social isolation and create a culture of belonging by exploring volunteer opportunities, or you can donate here to help fund  their growth. And, this month you can help them win a $25,000 grant on Christmas Day; click here to nominate them and pass it on! As the parent of two almost-middle-schoolers, I’m grateful to know about this work in our community, and others. Pass it on!

PASSION IMPACt

The mission of Passion Impact is to encourage high-school and continuing education students to engage in Portland communities to volunteer their passions. Through Volunteer Fairs, internship programs and other efforts, they provide access to community engagement in underserved schools in Portland, and recently held their passion_impact_logo-640-png first  event, Reaching for the Stars: Celebrating Student Volunteerism to recognize students and teachers in the Portland area for their volunteering achievements. Kudos to this team for a successful Giving Tuesday, which raised over $7,000 and helped the organization rise to  to number #8 on the OregoniansGive leader board. Learn about the organizations they support, volunteer opportunities. and initiatives such as their Community Engagement Advocate Program, a partnership with Portland Community College and make a donation to support their growth in the coming year.
